HR's Role in Spice Processing Industry Productivity

HR’s Role in Spice Processing Industry Productivity

The HR department should always be the main driver of productivity in the workplace. You could have an entire fleet of machinery, material, and money to keep production running, but, in general, you can’t make much progress without effective human resources at its core. Since productivity involves cultivating positive attitudes and work ethics, HR should lay the groundwork for employee performance by modeling certain values such as credibility, integrity, efficiency, and leadership.

How to Measure Employee Productivity?

The best way to measure productivity for your company depends on your industry, company size, and the types of products or services you sell. Most companies measure productivity based on:

Percentage of goal met

One way of determining productivity is to set a goal for each team or department. This might be the number of sales a team needs to drive or the amount of revenue they need to generate. The goal should be specific and measurable. Then, calculate productivity based on what percentage of the goal the team or department has managed to reach in a given period. The formula looks like this:

For example, We should give target sales for the sales team. They drive to complete the target. Sales representatives' salary is dependent on the final achievement of the sales target. The company pays full salary if they reach the target. If not it should be the percentage.

This measurement works well for goals with numeric values but doesn’t give you any indicator of quality.

A number of tasks completed

You can also measure productivity by looking at how many tasks an employee or team has managed to complete in a specific period. This method works best for repetitive, production-based jobs.

For example, we can identify the factory or machine capabilities and give the task to the employee. In my organization, we give tasks for cleaning persons. they have a specific time and specific targets for complete daily needs.

Labor productivity formula

According to the labor productivity formula, productivity equals total output divided by total input.

For example, let’s say your business generates Rs 100,000 in revenue in a month with the help of 1,500 work hours. In that case, your productivity would be Rs 100,000 / 1,500 hours = Rs 66 per hour.

Employee productivity means doing high-quality work by the employee with good efficiency. It is measured as the output of the employee in a given time. Output is required to be saleable and usable and of good quality. There are many different ways of measuring productivity. In a manufacturing organization, employee productivity is measured as the work output per man-hour worked. This measurement takes into account quality and efficiency. However, effectiveness is not covered by this measurement. Effectiveness of the employee productivity is determined by the cost benefit analysis of the manpower resources employed versus the output achieved. The organizational management always strives to ensure optimal utilization of manpower resources. Management by improving employee productivity ensures increased output of the organization.

Thanks for the comment Savindya. In this industry, we can use technology and HR-related solutions to boost productivity. These are
1. High-technology machines. This machine generates high production and minimizes breakdowns.
2. implement HR Technique which like Targets for the employee. ex. given extra money for overproduction during working hours.

There can be see significant challenges that HR has to face to enhance the overall performance in the Spice Processing Industry.

Lack of work force is one of the main challenges that HR leaders have to face. One main reason for this is younger generation who thinks that this sector of industry lacks competitive wages, innovations and transformations. Other reason for this is, employees’ attraction to fields such as IT/ITES and leave the spicy processing industry to find opportunities, which they define as new and exciting. Therefore it is responsibility of HR is introducing new technological improvements and making awareness regarding the opportunities in this industry to the job seekers.

Insufficient investment on employees also challenge for the entire spice processing industry HR. As a result of that HR has to face problems like, increasing of staff turnover rate due to mismatch of salaries with the competitive job rolls in the industry, reducing the production efficiency due to lack of usage of new technologies and also fail to provide adequate training to the employees to keep them updated with the latest developments in the industry.

Less Employee Engagement, Lack of competence of HR Managers and giving less importance to developing leadership at an organizational level are some significant challenges for HR in the Spice Processing Industry.

If employees are chasing targets it would be a great consolation to the management. But on the flip side while achieving targets the workforce must always focus on the quality of their works. The management should always keep track of productivity as well as the efficiency of their employees. HR has a huge role to paly for creating a sound employee engagement environment in the organization. This would increase the productivity and financial solidity of the business.
