Employers must take responsibility for keeping their workforce safe and ensuring people aren’t put at risk of infection. Physical distancing has been central to efforts to tackle the spread of the virus around the world and must now be a priority for employers. Personal protective equipment and screens will become common in the manufacturing environment.

In food manufacturing,  price and on-time delivery are critical to business success. On-time delivery has been particularly important during the pandemic situation, as retailers have had to respond to sudden increases and fluctuations in demand from consumers. Many businesses are responding to this by rethinking HR strategies. For many businesses in the food manufacturing sector, this will all be very new. It could feel like a significant departure from how you’re used to working. The right HR tools can help you meet these challenges and make the right decisions.

Social Environment

HR challenge for food manufacturers is adjusting to an environment where frequent change with the social situation. Therefore employees should be prepared for fluctuation of the production. Retailers will have to adapt quickly to these developments, which will put more pressure on food manufacturers and supply chains. These fluctuations require organizations to re-design the workforce according to capacity and flexibility.

1. Implement and develop the process according to the social situation

2. Employee relocation according to skill and development

3. Integrating multiple recruitments solutions

4. Implement flexible work arrangements

5. Building talent pools proactively

6. Building a strong Employer Brand to attract the right job candidates

The HR department needs to be mindful of the pressure the current situation is putting on the workforce. Physical health is a priority right now, but HR managers will also be thinking about employees’ mental health and how they can help workers cope in such difficult circumstances. This will further emphasize the need for HR managers to collect, manage and analyze data on their workforce, the labor market, and new HR tech.

From a global perspective the industry can do better to address these issues–it’s a powerful industry and has a voice–but is it being used effectively with regards to recruitment? Working in silos, competing for market share without an attitude of collaboration regarding the bigger issue of attracting people to pursue a career in food, simply means everyone suffers, from hiring managers to consumers.

There has never been a more exciting and important time to pursue a career in food, the future of food depends on it.

Unlike in any other services supplying organizations, food industry do have a good market share compared to others as it is inevitably essential. As current Covid 19 pandemic has affected global importations and exportation processes both good and bad aspects are arising in the food manufacturing industry. This will increase local manufacturing and distribution and changing the job profile to match with the demand and supply will be the perfect remedy.

In my point of view in recruitments of industries like FCMG reputation of the company & creating good culture throgh HR practice is very important .Since intense labour requirement is there to be filled from middle eductated category above factors will be more imimportant for them than the amount of the salary

COVID-19 is estimated to have dramatically increased the number of people facing acute food insecurity in 2020-2021. As of April 2021, the World Food Programme (WFP) estimates that 296 million people in the 35 countries where it works are without sufficient food—111 million more people than in April 2020. Recently released data on food security conditions from the Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS NET) provide insight into the unprecedented scale and level of current food security crisis conditions.

The globe has been subjected to an unprecedented health challenge in the form of COVID-19, indiscriminately impacting the global economy, global supply chains, and nations. Food is essential for human existence, but the food value chain is subjected to significant COVID-19 risks. Maintaining the movement of food through the global supply chain is essential for sustaining life. However, there are disruptions to the global and local supply chain impacting the production of food. The COVID-19 challenge faced by the Food and Beverages Manufacturing sector includes operations, safety, supply chain, training, emergency responses, awareness, incident management, recreating business models, digitalization, and other unanticipated impacts.

THUSHARA said...

Thanks for commenting Anjula. I agreed with you, in the near future we have to face the problem of insufficient food.it directly causes the food manufacturing industry and will result in the implementation of new strategies.

THUSHARA said...

Savindi you are correct, Already supply chain broken and raw materials are limited. it caused unbalance of the market. near future jobs may be limited in this industry.

In my opinion, with the pandemic situation, every sector becomes an uncomfortable situation. but for your industry maintain market value in this situation because FMCG manufacturing has a good market on the global.

THUSHARA said...

Yes, Kavishika. With this situation, the FCMG industry is profitable at this moment. That causes another challenge. Some major companies try to attend to the FCMG market because of market stability with the covid situation.

The Pandemic situation is a big challenge facing globally. Undoubtedly, this is a situation that has affected all sectors not only locally but also globally. Mainly during this period, there was a huge shortage of food production. In June 2020, the United Nations even warned that the world was facing its worst food crisis in half a century due to the recession caused by the epidemic. It is possible to imagine the effect of this pandemic on food production. But if you focus on this, the challenge will be much easier to overcome. Therefore, in addition to other barriers that may arise in this situation, it is important to pay special attention to the safety of the employees working in the organization. This allows employees to stay healthy and move forward with their products. Especially if the employees of the company get infected with this disease, the demand for those foods will decrease and it will have a great impact directly on the product market. We have experienced the same situation locally as well.

Covid 19 outbreak has become a huge negative impact for all the sectors in the world. Each and every organization from SMES to even large blue chip companies are highly effected by this pandemic. But when considering the impact caused to the food processing industry they almost have to cease the operations and same will be indirectly effect to the whole economic landscape in the country and also in the world. Proactive methods have to be implemented to continue the process to cater the large increasing economic demand.

Thanks for the comment Panduka, presently anyone can be infected easily by diseases. As a food processing company, it has created plans to face that kind of situation. the badest situation is the 14-day factory closing strategy and if can maintain a finished goods stock outside of the factory, It can help continue the sale. Any company should get this kind of decision to face diseases.

THUSHARA said...

Thanks for the comment Danushka. Presently this is the common situation. But any countries government didn't try to close Agriculture or Food industries. I think Any company has a second option to do production safely.
